key stock is precision-sized bar stock used to make machine keys that lock rotating components (like gears, pulleys, or couplings) to a shaft. It is typically supplied as long bars with accurately controlled square or rectangular cross‑sections, from which shorter keys are cut to fit matching keyways in the shaft and hub so torque can be transmitted without slip.
