Thread Cutting Tools
Boring can be done on mills, lathes or drill press machines, either with a boring head or with just a boring tool. The shorter the distance between the tool holder and the material, the less distortion created from vibration or unbalanced gyroscopic effects. The actual piece that cuts the thread is called an Insert, and the insert is attached to a Boring Bar. The Boring bar with the cutting Insert remains static (usually), while the lather rotates. The Boring bar could cut a thread in an existing hole, or just make the hole larger.
Common applications of Thread Cutting Tools are:
- • Machining
- • Metalworking
