Sprockets

A sprocket is the name of a projection on a wheel that engages with corresponding spaces in a chain. Therefore a wheel with sprockets on it was called a sprocket-wheel. This is now known simply as a sprocket. Sprockets differ from pulleys in that a sprocket is toothed, and gears are generally smooth. However, the purpose of both is to transmit power from one shaft to another shaft.
